Fried Green Tomatoes

Ingredients:

  • 4 Green (unripe) tomatoes, sliced 1/4 inch thick

  • 1 cup All-purpose flour

  • 2 Eggs, beaten with 2 tbsp milk

  • 1 cup Yellow cornmeal

  • 1/2 cup Breadcrumbs

  • 1 tsp Salt

  • 1/2 tsp Black pepper

  • 1/4 tsp Cayenne pepper

  • Vegetable oil for frying

Instructions:

  1. Set up three bowls:

    • Bowl 1: Flour mixed with salt and pepper.

    • Bowl 2: Egg and milk mixture.

    • Bowl 3: Cornmeal, breadcrumbs, and cayenne mixed.

  2. Dip tomato slices in flour, then egg, then the cornmeal mixture (press to adhere).

  3. Heat 1/2 inch of oil in a skillet to 375°F (190°C).

  4. Fry tomatoes in batches for 3–4 minutes per side until golden brown.

  5. Drain on paper towels and sprinkle with a little extra salt. Serve with Remoulade or Ranch.
