Homemade Buttermilk Biscuits

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups All-purpose flour

  • 1 tbsp Baking powder

  • 1/2 tsp Baking soda

  • 1 tsp Sugar

  • 1 tsp Salt

  • 1/2 cup Unsalted butter, VERY cold and cubed

  • 3/4 cup Cold buttermilk

Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven to 450°F (230°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment.

  2. Whisk flour, baking powder, baking soda, sugar, and salt in a bowl.

  3. Cut the cold butter into the flour using a pastry cutter or fork until it looks like coarse crumbs (pea-sized chunks should remain).

  4. Pour in cold buttermilk and stir gently until a shaggy dough forms.

  5. Turn dough onto a floured surface. Fold the dough over itself 5–6 times (this creates layers).

  6. Pat dough down to 1-inch thickness. Cut with a biscuit cutter (push straight down, do not twist).

  7. Place biscuits on the sheet touching each other.

  8. Bake for 12–15 minutes until tall and golden brown.
